It is very much a part of east Tennessee. As only the third owner of a home built in 1929, I experience the beauty of living in an historic home in an historic neighborhood.

The Historic Preservation Fund is an important tool in the keeping of our nation’s history and the vastness of cultures that make up our population. Preserving history and providing education gives us insight about the past and connects us with our ancestry, which gives context to the modern world. The leaders of our nation have a responsibility to aid these efforts.

Private investors contributing to historic preservation further aids in the keeping of our nation’s history and the vastness of cultures that make up our population. Limiting the barriers to the Historic Tax Credit and enhancing its value allows for more

Federal project funding is an important undertaking by our government. The input of citizens in the decision making process is paramount for many reasons, one of them being to ensure historic and tribal cultural resources are protected.

The Trail of Tears runs through a large portion of Tennessee’s Third Congressional District. The keeping of it’s history plays a significant role in the education of one of our nation’s tragedies. Today, we are able to take a step back in time and place ourselves on the trail, providing us with a level of context and an impact that can only be achieved because of it’s preservation.

It breaks my heart when I see an historic building go to ruin. If we want to make sure we do not repeat the past, we need to remember our history. One of the main things we can do to remember our history, is to preserve all our historical buildings here in the US. So, I think that this fund is very important especially here in the South where I reside. Lately, we have groups of people that do not want to remember our history, for whatever reason, it is dangerous, and it is a form of denial which is not healthy for anyone or anything! In my opinion the fund needs to be bigger, and we need to make sure that people know that they can get help, if they want to preserve a historical building.

I think the more incentives people have to be able to preserve our historic buildings, the more historic buildings will be preserved!

I have to say here in Tennessee it breaks my heart when I see so many buildings going to ruin. It seems people do not care to remember their history, and maybe that is because it is too painful or embarrassing for them. Through my congressional district I have seen different projects going on to preserve historic buildings and it makes me very happy, but we need to do so much more. I moved to Tennessee because I love history and because of the beautiful old buildings that are scattered throughout the state. I was hoping I could renovate a property again as I did in Pennsylvania when I was young. If I’m elected, I hope to encourage more people to preserve history and I hope maybe I’ll be able to do that again. There is a specific beautiful old stone stable, just a few miles from my house that no one seems to know what to do with it. It was to be renovated but now I guess that idea has ended. I wish I could afford to buy it myself. I would convert it into a beautiful home and plant rows of trees down the driveway, it would be just gorgeous!! I wish someone would do something with it, because I have lived here for 8 years, and every day I know that it is falling more and more into disarray. It’s heartbreaking!
