If elected to Congress, I would be representing the citizens of the 2nd District which is located in Philadelphia. The city of Philadelphia is replete with historical sites and properties. Obtaining robust funding to maintain these sites is vital to preserving the city’s cultural heritage.

History is important to study our past as it guides our future. I have many historic grave sites home to Revolutionary & Civil War. Not to mention Philadelphia being the birthplace of our Republic. We must defend our historical properties & fund them so we can preserve our legacy as the greatest Nation on earth

Pennsylvania’s history is rich and foundational to the history of our nation – and the fourth congressional district is no different.
Montgomery County is home to the Battle of Edge Hill, which preceded George Washington’s famous wintering at Valley Forge – which is partially in Montgomery County. The Continental Army’s tenacity that winter was pivotal for continuing our young nation’s fight for independence. It is in that same spirit – the struggle for freedom – that abolitionists like Lucretia Mott, a resident of Cheltenham Township, used her home as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Her home in Cheltenham Township lies just a few miles north of Independence Hall, where, in the words of Thomas Paine, our nation’s founders ushered in “the birthday of a new world.”
And at Independence Hall, the founders wrote the Declaration of Independence and ratified the Constitution, the groundbreaking bedrock of our nation’s guiding principles. These principles – freedom, decency, democracy – guide my work in Washington, and it is vital we preserve these crucial relics for future generations.

Historic preservation plays an important role in every state/district. The 5th District has numerous clear historical advantages as an early birthplace of American settlement, also as a residential headquarters for infamous “conductors” of the Underground Railroad. The Garret Home is one of such places and could always use the additional federal support.
I was born in Philadelphia and raised hearing the stories of “Freedom Fighters” my parents and the Civil Rights movement. On October 4th, 2024, in Philadelphia a renaming of a street will take place in front of Girard College that my parents helped to desegregate. I think it’s safe to say that without the help, and fearlessness of Mr. Garret and his family, that what we know and recognize as the American Civil Rights Movement, may not have taken place. Our monuments must be historically preserved and are essentially relevant to the celebration and importance of our history and our nation.
