Co-chaired by Representatives Mike Turner (R-OH) & Teresa Leger-Fernández (D-NM), the Historic Preservation Caucus serves as a forum for members to discuss ways to protect and revitalize America’s historic places. The bipartisan Historic Preservation Caucus is comprised of new and seasoned Representatives that work together to support preservation & economic development by advocating for historic preservation legislation, including funding needs. National preservation organizations work closely with the Caucus on initiatives throughout the year, including a Preservation Month briefing each May, organized by Preservation Action. State and Territory Commissions play a key role in the lead-up to the Semiquincentennial in 2026. Each U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia forms its own commission to plan, coordinate, and support commemorative activities at the local, state, and national levels. These commissions are responsible for organizing events, programs, and initiatives that highlight their region’s unique history, culture, and contributions to the broader American story.

Visiting historic sites and preservation projects in your state or district provides a tangible way to see federal investments at work in local communities. These visits highlight how preservation supports economic development, workforce activity, tourism, and community revitalization—while connecting Members directly with constituents benefiting from federal programs.
