As Congress is considering future relief efforts in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Preservation Action along with our partners are advocating to make sure the historic preservation community is part of that conversation.
In addition to joining a community letter backed by 380 organizations and businesses from across the country and the Historic Preservation Assistance request letter, Preservation Action is launching the “In My District” photo campaign.
“In My District” provides a template for you to reach out to your Senators and Representatives and let them know about the economic impact the Historic Tax Credit has on your community. Drag and drop photos, along with some basic information to illustrate the benefits of these revitalized buildings! It’s a quick and easy way to advocate for the historic tax credit.
Available as a CANVA template (sign up for a free Canva account to use this method).
Or download the WORD or GOOGLE Doc.
Simply drag and drop in your photos (before and after photos are great!) and add a few factoids.
Ask your members of Congress to support the Historic Tax Credit as a part of future stimulus legislation. We’re requesting Congress support the provisions of the HTC-GO Act (H.R. 2825/S. 2615) and additional enhancements including a temporary increase in the value of the HTC from 20% to 30%. The HTC is a proven economic development tool and as Congress looks for ways to stimulate the economy, these changes would increase rehabilitation activities, create jobs, and support local communities. Then let your members know via Email/phone/share on social media. Tag #InMyDistrict and @preservationaction on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

While the congressional schedule remains uncertain, it’s vital that advocates from across the country continue to engage with their members of Congress and urge them to support historic preservation programs that help to stimulate the economy in the next round of recovery legislation.
