Urge Congress to Support Historic Preservation Programs in Coronavirus Relief and Economic Stimulus Efforts

As Congress is considering future relief efforts in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Preservation Action along with our partners are advocating to make sure the historic preservation community is part of that conversation. Preservation Action joined the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO) and the National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (NATHPO) in sending a letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Committee requesting $120 million for the Historic Preservation Fund. Including:

  • $30 Million SHPOs – For investments in survey, digitization of records, GIS, electronic project review systems, staff and equipment;
  • $15 Million THPOs – For investments in survey, digitization of records, GIS, electronic project review systems, staff and equipment, and;
  • $75 Million Directed to Certified Local Governments for Bricks and mortar, survey, education and planning

Funding for survey and digitization is critical to make sure that historic resources are protected, while at the same time guaranteeing that important infrastructure projects are not delayed. Funding for Certified Local Governments will provide much needed economic stimulus directly to local communities while preserving historic resources that help to provide a sense of place and stability for communities.

Join Preservation Action by adding your organization to the Historic Preservation Assistance Request Letter! We’re also encouraging you to share this letter with your Senators and Representatives. The deadline for signatures is COB Friday, May 1st. Complete the form below.
