The National Historic Preservation Act recognized the immensely important role that government can play to help preserve our national historic site, buildings, and things of significant national interest. I wholeheartedly support strong funding for the Historic Preservation Fund and support the current bill introduced in the House called to reauthorize the Historic Preservation Fund, H.R. 3350.
Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives:
Would you support efforts to modernize and enhance the Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HTC) program?
Yes
I would absolutely support the Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit program and the Historic Preservation Easement program in order to incentivize rehabilitation projects, which will revitalize communities by creating jobs, protect our histories and culture.
Do you support the Federal Historic Preservation Easement program?
Yes
I would strongly support this program, as another powerful and critical tool to help preserve our historic buildings. By incentivizing property owners to donate easements to qualified organizations that protect historic buildings and receive tax benefits in return, it’ll significantly help preserve historic places.

I think that the local communities’ inputs are important in identifying cultural and historic things of value in their neighborhoods in it planning process. Historical and cultural places are very important in helping us understand our past and its connection with our present, and hold crucial learning lessons for communities. Moreover, preserving our historical and cultural sites can provide critical economic revitalization, especially in rural communities.

In Colts Neck, we have a Historic Preservation Committee that works to identify and mark buildings of historical significance. We have many historical landmarks in town dating back to the Revolutionary War. Some of these buildings are old and only open to the public a few times during the year and it is a celebration in town. We have The New Jersey Museum of Transportation and Camp Evans Historic District, both, in Wall Township, which are dedicated to preserving historic events of the past. Middletown and Shrewsbury Townships, both, have churches and homes where one can learn about what life was like in the past. Ocean County has historic districts in Bay Head and Toms River, Lakehurst, and Berkeley as well. Recently, I had the opportunity to see a concert at The Strand and it was such a great theater. The acoustics were great and it was a bit like stepping back in time. We are lucky to live where we do.

Yes – New Jersey is one of the original 13 colonies and NJ-07 is home to several revolutionary landmarks and monuments! Studying history in college and later becoming a history teacher myself, I have a deep passion and appreciation for historical preservation, particularly here in one of the most historic and beautiful parts of New Jersey. Lambertville, the town I call home, has a deep traditional of historic preservation and appreciation – the town itself is home to several historic sites and draws travelers from across the region and country for it’s rich antiquing scene.

There are many historic sites all over Hudson, Essex, and Union County. I’m a Multiple Dwelling Inspector for the state of NJ. I see parks, churches, and buildings of historical significance all the time. For example, West New York has Miller Stadium which is over one hundred years old. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig played there back in the 1930’s. Bruce Springsteen filmed the music video to Glory Days on the field. That’s just one example. We need to preserve these old sites not only to learn their history but to learn from their mistakes as well.

Historic preservation is incredibly important in New Jersey’s 9th District, especially in my hometown of Paterson. Sites like the Great Falls National Historical Park and Lambert Castle are crucial pieces of our nation’s industrial and cultural history, showcasing the contributions of immigrants and working-class Americans who helped build this country. These landmarks tell the story of Paterson’s rich past and symbolize the strength of American innovation.
Other historic locations, such as the iconic Passaic County Courthouse, also highlight the district’s diverse history and cultural significance. Preserving these sites is essential to maintaining our connection to the past and educating future generations about the heritage that has shaped our community.
As your representative, I will work to protect these historic landmarks for future generations, ensuring they continue to serve as reminders of our shared American history and the contributions made by those who came before us.
