Pikes Peak has been a landmark for Indigenous Nations, early explorers, and settlers. It was famously the inspiration for Katharine Lee Bates’ poem “America the Beautiful”. The Pikes Peak Highway and Pike’s Peak Railway are the highest elevation highway and railway in the world. The Pikes Peak Ascent and the Pikes Peak Marathon hold very significant meaning to me personally, as the Ascent has inspired me to make healthier decisions and lifestyle changes. It also gives the people in my district pride, as a symbol of our resilience.
