Historic Preservation Fund:

Do you support stable and robust funding for the Historic Preservation Fund?

Yes

Would you support efforts to permanently reauthorize and enhance the Historic Preservation Fund?

Yes

History helps us understand the world today, to remember and learn from our past mistakes. Our past is what makes us who we are, and it is our responsibility to preserve our history for future generations. The Historic Preservation Fund does incredibly important work to protect our heritage and our past.

I support a reauthorization of the Historic Preservation Fund and understand the request for a permanent authorization for long-term planning purposes, however,  I would like more information about the funding of $300 million annually and general budget implications. Additionally , I would like more details about the allocation process and the potential for adjustments in the amount of funding provided to the HPF (e.g., in the case of emergencies or inflation).

Historic Tax Credit:

Would you support efforts to update the Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit?

Yes

I support the HTC because it revitalizes otherwise vacant and underutilized properties, generates new jobs, and brings in more federal tax revenue than its cost to the federal government.

Historic Preservation Protections:

Would you support policies that assure the impact to historic and cultural resources continue to be considered in the federal project planning process?

Yes

I will always fight to protect our cultures and traditions. I believe any new projects should always engage with local communities and genuinely consider the impact to historic and cultural resources.

Does historic preservation play an important role in your state/district? How so? Describe any personal connections to historic preservation or historic sites. Is there a specific historic place in your district that is important to you and your constituents?

Yes, historic preservation plays an important role in Alaska. I am a Yup’ik Alaska Native, born in Alaska and raised on the Kuskokwim River in Kwethluk, Tuntutuliak, Platinum, and Bethel. Alaska Native culture keeps our children safe and our communities strong – and historic preservation plays an important part in protecting our culture and our traditions.
